This project involved developing an initial strategy to perform BEAs
at a site planned for revitalization of an area of Mexicantown in
Detroit. The site will be developed as a Welcome Center generating
commercial and tourist jobs. The site involves residential, commercial,
vacant, and industrial properties. The site covers approximately 31
acres and consists of 180 lots. Areas of contaminated property exist at
the site. Contamination includes fill material (lead), petroleum
hydrocarbons, underground storage tank issues. HANDS utilized Phase I
and Phase II data generated by the DEQ and its contractor for this
project. HANDS worked with the DEQ and City of Detroit, on this project
for MCDC. Close coordination of the project was necessary to ensure that
all parties were in agreement with the proposed strategy.
